Oh. how far I have come since Miami. Since Miami I have been to Florida city/the everglades, the keys, backup to fort lauderdale, and New Orleans. To reach all of these destinations I participated in a lot of public transportation, which happened to be some of the best people watching I have done in a long time. Meth woman number one: about 5'5", no more than 90 pounds, short blond hair that she continually brushed in between doing and saying innapropriate things. At one point she got up mumbled some swears, turned around and smacked her booty. Although there were many more amuzing things witnessed while bus ridding, she was my favorite.
Florida City/Everglades: we stayed in an awesome hostel with a backyard like the secret garden. in the garden was a gazebo, which had a couch that circled 3/4 of the inside. the couch was covered with an assortment of blankets, pillows, and bean bags. There were white Christmas lights around the top and covering a christmas tree in the corner. In the center was a coffee table with a huka and a variety of different flavored tobacos. I want to live in that gazebo. I probably spent about 5-6 hours in there reading. besides hanging out in the gazebo, i went to an alligator farm. i fed some baby alligators, went on one of those airboats through the everglades, and saw a snake show. It was a very family friendly kind of day. After the alligator farm we headed over to "robert is here" farmers market. steve and i got ourselves a homemade strawberry key lime milk shake. so good...uh, uh, so good....uh, uh. we also bought some fresh veggies and a giant avacado and made ourselves one hell of a salad that evening.
Key West: In key west, we treated ourselves to a real hotel with a swimminig pool and sleep comfort mattresses. steve and i spent about an hour playing with/adjusting the mattress to our comfort level. Our first night there we had a few alcoholic beverages, ate dinner, and miandered around town. One of the places we miandered into, of course happened to be an Irish Pub. The pub greatly resembled buckhead, including the live music, not including men wearing striped collared shirts. The band was great. One of the guys looked like axel rose and played the drumtar... yes... a drumtar. Our second day we went to hemmingways house and the southernmost point in the U.S. Hemmingways house was amazing! I petted so many cute little 6 toed cats. Our day adventure in key west was followed by more frozen tropical drinks, chips and salsa, and a vegitarian hot dog froom a vender on the side of the street.
New Orleans: to get to new orleans from the keys, this is what we went through. One, 1 1/2 hour bus ride from Key West to Keylargo area. Our first bus was late so we had to wait about 3 hours at mcdonalds for our nex bus. Our next bus from Keylargo to Florida city was about another 1 1/2 hours. From Florida city to the inner part of miami another hour. Switched onto a train for about a half an hour, then had to take another bus for a half an hour to a a hostel in southbeach. we spent the night there, got up at 7 am to take 3 different buses- 2 hours to the fort lauderdale airport. took an hour flight to charolette, waited in the charolette airport for an hour. got on another hour flight to new orleans. took a one hour bus ride to our hostel. I know I have a very stiff neck...
so far the travel seemed worth it. our first night in our friend dan took us to a ragae bar; good music, awesome people watching. our second day, steve and i went to a suggested area... magazine street. we spent the whole day bumming around, not realizing where we actually were and where we needed to be to get back. we walked a good 6 miles. after our long day of walking, dan had us over for some traditional new orleans food he cooked up himself. He mad jumbaly- mine vegitarian of course, and fried okra. He did a fabulous job. It was a good day.
